In the beginning, God create the heavens and the earth
Gen 1.1 (ESV)
My father told me about Halley’s Comet in 1986 while I was a young, impressionable boy. I did not get to see it that year, but it kindled my interest in astronomy. The evidence: Charlie Brown’s ‘Cyclopedia volumes 7 (Space Travel) and 8 (Stars and Planets) were among my favorite books over the following few years!
Those who study the stars have God for a teacher
Tycho Brahe
As I grew up, I began to understand and appreciate God’s creation. I had the opportunity to live in the countryside during my university days, giving me a chance to observe the heavens under darker skies. Indeed, I discovered Tycho Brahe’s statement to be true: when we contemplate the extreme size, distances, speeds, timescales, and the raw beauty of the universe, we learn so much about God, understand our position in it, and are humbled that He should task us with caring for his creation.
I now reside in the city state of Singapore and have discovered that I can still engage in astronomy – most of the images on this site (like the one of Messier 5 above) were captured here. Furthermore, I learned that observing the heavens need not be restricted to the night only!
